How Are Partial and Full Dentures Made?

Creating partial and full dentures typically begins with an examination to determine if the remaining dentition is in good shape and can act as an anchor for a partial denture. If not, then full dentures might be preferable.

Partial dentures require healthy tooth structure that can support and retain the prosthesis. Replacement teeth are secured to an acrylic/metal base which is in turn is supported and secured by adjacent teeth.

Full dentures replace all missing teeth and gum tissue. They are used in cases where the remaining teeth are in poor condition with questionable outcome. They can be retained and supported by your gums and jaw, or by dental implants.

In both cases, molds of your teeth and jaw is necessary to begin the fabrication process. For our patients who don’t tolerate the molds very well, we also have the option of using a digital scanner. Our dentist will work in conjunction with a team of laboratory technicians to customize your denture to your specific condition, including tooth shape, colour and your bite.
